Worlds SECOND largest Jackrabbit?
Odessa’s 8-foot-tall “Jack Ben Rabbit” once proudly stood as the “Worlds Largest Jackrabbit” in the heart of town since 1962. Unfortunately, in 2017, the small Texas (of course) town of Ralls took away the title with a 10′ wood carved hare, in what has been a rather confusing and messy back and forth ever since. The City of Odessa has recently been looking for someone to build a new 50 foot jackrabbit to reclaim the worlds largest roadside attraction title while relocating the 8′ version to different places until finally just quietly putting it away in some storage or basement.
Will they complete their dream of a 50′ hare in the center if town? Some think maybe, others find it an expensive dream. Either way, we hope … well, we don’t really know what to think about al this. Once town has a 10′ but doesn’t talk about it much online, the other has an 8′ and has hid it in some basement.
So there it is. 2 different Jackrabbits, neither of which you will probably ever see.
Lets move on.
The World’s Largest Rattlesnake
Texas, home to 10 different kinds of deadly rattlesnakes and a population split between being terrified of them and bringing them to church on Sundays.
Then there’s Freer, Texas, who proudly displays the World’s Largest Rattlesnake as a nod to its famous Rattlesnake Roundup. This massive sculpture is both thrilling and slightly intimidating, delighting those who pass through town. The statue’s scale and lifelike appearance make it an unforgettable stop for travelers seeking unique landmarks.
The rattlesnake is more than a quirky photo op; it encapsulates the wild spirit of South Texas. Freer’s connection to outdoor recreation and hunting is celebrated through this giant tribute. Visitors can enjoy local events like the Rattlesnake Roundup while appreciating the unique flair of this striking sculpture.
